Nishant Upadhyay, Ph.D.

Post-Doctorial Fellow at Tsinghua University, Beijing

Nishant Upadhyay, PhD is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tsinghua University, Beijing, where his research examines non-Western political theories of sovereignty and their implications for Indo-Chinese relations. He holds a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin and works at the intersection of critical theory, postcolonial studies, and comparative political thought. His interdisciplinary scholarship spans minority politics and resistance in India, Hindi/Urdu literary critiques, and the application of Agamben’s biopolitical framework to non-Western contexts. Dr. Upadhyay’s current projects focus on synthesizing Leftist political thought to theorize inclusive, postcolonial sovereignties beyond Eurocentric paradigms. He is particularly interested in how marginalized communities navigate state power and forge emancipatory futures amid rising authoritarianism. His work has been featured in Sophia, Peace Review, Middle-East Critique, among others. You can connect with him on X (Twitter) @ReMarxed or via email at nishantx@utexas.edu.
